Rob Horstman
Rob Horstman, Pastor
Pastor Rob, a graduate of Sioux Falls Seminary in 2011, is our congregational care and
preaching pastor, and oversees the shepherding of the congregation and consistory. Prior
to joining First Reformed in June 2011, Pastor Rob attended seminary, farmed with his
family and was the General Manager of the Farmers’ Cooperative Exchange of Rock
Rapids and Lester Iowa for 13 years.

Anita Van Veldhuizen
As the Family, Life, & Ministry of Care Provider, Anita serves as a steppingstone amid life’s
raging waters. She provides our church and community with a variety of resources, tools, skills,
and helps when facing any life situations – particularly grief, loss, life changes, diagnosis, and
parenting. She maintains a professional level of confidentiality as she walks with you through
the trenches.
Anita also serves in the ministry of visitation and visits grieving individuals/families after loss
due to death, divorce, diagnosis, and/or life changes; nursing home residents, shut-ins, persons
living with long-term illness, widows, widowers, single moms and parents struggling with the
needs and demands of parenting in unique situations.
In her role as Youth Director, Anita plans and coordinates lessons, games, outings, events,
service projects, and a whole lot of fun while keeping things real and focused on Jesus. IMPACT,
our 9th -12th youth group, meets at 7pm on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Wednesdays of every month in the lower-level youth room. SHINE, our 7th & 8th grade youth group meets at 7 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month in the Shine room located in the upper level of the office building.
Anita has a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and a Master’s degree in Marriage & Family
Therapy. She is married to Denny and they have six children: Viktoria (24); Elliot (22); Jordan
(20); Tyson (10); and twins, Jazaya & Delaney (8).

Janelle Brower
Janelle Brower, Treasurer
Janelle lives outside of Inwood with her husband Jeremy and her 3 children Addi, Chase, and Tyler. As Treasurer, she handles the Church’s finances for the Consistory members. If she’s not at Church working, usually she’s helping her husband, out and about with kids and their activities, or enjoying some baking time.
Joan Hoogendoorn
Joan Hoogendoorn, Secretary & Media Tech Coordinator
Her responsibilities include:
- Prepare the bulletin each week
- Prepare pre-service slides for Sunday worship
- Take care of the church’s social media (Facebook, website, etc.)
- Assist with video recording when needed (wedding, funeral, etc.)
- Work with the pictorial directory for church members
- Provide administrative support to the pastor, and youth pastor.
- Provide support to other church ministries/groups as needed

Joan is married to Dennis and they have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. They raise sheep on their farm. They enjoy fishing and spending lots of time with their grandkids.
Mark & Sandy Van Tol
Mark and Sandy Van Tol, Custodians
As custodians, our position is to keep the facility clean for the church service, weddings and funeral services, along with the group meetings that are held here at church. A blessing of our job is getting to know more church members. Seeing God’s blessings through those people, their gifts that God has blessed them with, and that they share with our members. Our family includes our daughter, Megan, who is married to Doug Abbas and their children Colter and Cadence; and our son, Cody, who is married to Mallary and their daughter, Nelly.
